Kumatori-cho, Osaka Gyozaya-san Store owner Masaharu Obuchi

Craft beer… It was a dream story that the employees laughed and talked about if they could make it as an original for the shop. However, just like the words of our predecessors, “If you put your mind to it, it will work”, there was a “fate”, and the third generation was able to produce craft beer. This craft beer was named “Craft Beer En” and was released in April 2017. And when we redesigned boiled dumplings with improved skin so that they go well with craft beer, they became a big hit. Today, craft beer rims and boiled dumplings have grown to become signature menu items. It took a lot of time to get people to know about craft beer, but we succeeded in creating a local brand. Now that we have completed the fourth preparation, we are trying craft beer that matches the season. I think this is another way to enjoy craft beer.

Masaaki Imura, owner of PUBLIC HOUSE THE CASTLE BAR, Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture

If I were to brew an original craft beer, I wanted to use Wakayama’s specialties to make a craft beer. That’s when I came up with the idea of ’Jabara’. I have been friends with people from Kitayama Village in Wakayama Prefecture for a long time, and I secretly thought that citrus fruits would go well with craft beer. We have done it ourselves in brewing, so we have a lot of love. “Evil IPA” has been completed. In order to make Yakatsu IPA the main product, we thought it would be uninteresting to simply offer it as a single menu, so we released it as a 1st anniversary commemorative item for THE CASTLE BAR, which is both topical and event-like. After the refreshing aroma of hops, the bitterness of evil comes without sarcasm… I am very satisfied with the craft beer that I had dreamed of. And now it’s growing into a major product. In the future, I would like to create a series of craft beer brewing for each season.

Koyasan, Koya Town, Wakayama Prefecture ~ Tenku Hannya ~

In 2018, we started cultivating hops in an abandoned farmland in the Fuki district of Koya-cho, and dedicated “Tenku Hannya” to Koyasan Kongobu-ji Temple. The purpose of this project is not to sell craft beer, but to revitalize the town by creating new industries for hop cultivation and craft beer brewing in the wealthy district, creating jobs. From 2020, we will start selling “Tenku Hannya” at temple lodgings in Koyasan, aiming to position it as a hometown tax product and a new souvenir of Koyasan.
